2019 Audi A7 Sportback: High Style Blends With High-Tech

December 14, 2017

The recently revealed 2019 Audi A7 Sportback is the second generation of Audi’s sleek, full-size five-door hatchback sedan. Fitting into the uniquely German category of upscale four-door coupes, it sits in the lineup between Audi’s A6 and A8 sedans. The A7 Sportback is about the same size as the A6 sedan, but contains a range of high-tech infotainment and driver assistance features from the top-of-the-line A8 sedan.

The latest version of the A7 Sportback is slightly shorter than the current model, but boasts a longer wheelbase. This has been used to provide more head and knee space for rear seat passengers. Shorter overhangs and sharper styling give the A7 a more muscular stance. Its large trunk is accessed through the rear hatch. An integrated rear spoiler is built into the hatch and raises automatically at 75 mph to improve the car’s aerodynamics.

The 2019 Audi A7 Sportback will initially be powered by a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine with an output of 340 horsepower. Other engines will follow at a later date. The V6 will be mated to a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission. The A7 Sportback will come with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive as standard.

What’s So Special About The Audi A7 Sportback?

The A7 Sportback’s interior is understated and luxurious, with a horizontal design that emphasizes the car’s spaciousness. Three TFT screens dominate the dash. A 12.3” Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster is configurable and sits in front of the driver. In the center of the dash are dual screens with haptic and acoustic feedback, sized 10.1” on top and 8.6” below. These have been borrowed from the Audi A8, and control the satellite navigation, infotainment, text input, comfort functions, and ventilation. There’s an available heads-up display that projects important information onto the windshield.

Also ported over from the A8 are the remote parking pilot and remote garage pilot. These features use a phone app to autonomously move the car into and out of a parking space or a garage. Cool!

The fuel-efficient 2019 Audi A7 Sportback comes with some of the functionality of a hybrid. It has a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that can store power generated by the car’s combination alternator and starter, then use it to restart the car. This system ties into a fuel-saving auto stop/start system, using the car’s front camera to signal the engine to restart when the traffic starts moving again. The A7 even has an economical freewheeling mode that shuts off the engine when you are coasting at speeds above 33 mph.

Other interesting available features on the 2019 A7 Sportback are a four-wheel variable-steering system for more agile handling, a perfume atomizer, massaging and ventilated front seats, and an air suspension. The top audio option is a Bang & Olufsen advanced sound system, which delivers 3D sound to the rear seats.

Should You Lease An Audi A7 Sportback?

The 2019 Audi A7 Sportback will be an awesome car to lease, with its sleek style and its high-tech features. It also comes with a 4-year/50,000 mile new car warranty. You will have the peace of mind that comes with full warranty coverage for the entire time you are driving this very attractive piece of German high technology.

Pricing for the 2019 Audi A7 Sportback should start in the neighborhood of the current generation’s $68,800 base price. Be careful when selecting all those amazing options, though – the prices do add up!

The 2019 Audi A7 Sportback will go on sale in its home country of Germany in February 2018. US sales will follow in mid-to-late 2018.
