2019 Cadillac XT4: Cadillac Joins The Compact Luxury SUV Cage Match

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is the GM luxury brand’s long overdue entry into the extremely crowded and hard-fought compact luxury SUV market. The XT4 is sized under Cadillac’s other SUVs. The current Cadillac SUV lineup consists of the two-row mid-size XT5 SUV, as well as the gigantic full-size-and-then-some Escalade and Escalade ESV three-row, body-on-frame SUVs.

Exterior Styling And Design

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 makes the most of its compact footprint, with blocky, angular front-end styling that is definitely Cadillac. The large front grille on the XT4 is flanked by LED headlights and light blades. The side profile is also unmistakably Cadillac, with a deep horizontal groove running across the doors, and the characteristic sloping rear roof pillar. The rear features taillights that go from the tailgate up to the roof, similar to those of a Volvo. This is an interesting touch, and is something new for Cadillac.

Interior Features

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 was designed to provide excellent interior space, particularly in terms of rear seat legroom. Cargo space with the rear seats folded is 48.9 cu. ft. Interior furnishings include a thick, three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel; bolstered sport seats with available massage function; and available white ambient lighting.

Three XT4 trim levels will be offered: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport.

Technology Features In The 2019 Cadillac XT4

The XT4’s technology integration includes Cadillac’s first rotary controller for the CUE infotainment system. The new controller includes volume and seek controls for the audio system; shortcut buttons for fast access to the most frequently used apps; and a large center dial to operate those apps’ primary features, scroll menus and lists. Other technology features include:

• An 8” screen with 768p HD resolution
• Near-field communication, for easier phone pairing
• Faster, next-generation 15-watt wireless charging
• Four standard USB ports and three 12-volt accessory power outlets
• An SD memory card reader, with the available navigation radio

Standard XT4 driver assistance features include rear park assist and the teen driver system. Available are lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, safety alert seat, surround vision system, and a rear camera mirror.

Engine, Transmission, And Drive Options

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder, turbocharged engine with an output of 237 horsepower. It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.
